Nele Bauereisen Joins Union’s Women

The women's team of 1. FC Union Berlin are strengthening their ranks with the addition of striker Nele Bauereisen during the winter break. The 20-year-old comes to Köpenick from the leaders of the 2. Bundesliga, 1. FC Nürnberg.

Via Weinberg to “Der Club”

Born in Ansbach, Bauereisen started her career at SV 67 Weinberg in the Regionalliga Süd. She made her competitive debut on 1 November 2020 at the age of 16 in the second round of the DFB Pokal where, in the 5-0 win against 1. FFV Erfurt scored her first senior goal in the 66th minute to make it 3-0. She also made an appearance in the round of 16 against Bundesliga club SC Freiburg.

Bauereisen then moved to 1. FC Nürnberg on a free transfer for the 2021/22 season. She played twelve matches in her debut season in the 2. Bundesliga, including ten consecutive appearances. She played her first second division match on 15 August 2021 in a 3-0 away win against FC Bayern Munich II. In the following season, she scored six goals in 15 games and played a key role in the club's promotion to the Bundesliga. Bauereisen made 17 appearances in Germany's top flight. After one year in the Bundesliga, she and 1. FC Nürnberg were relegated to the second division.

In the current season, the 5’10” attacker has been in strong form. Having played in all 13 league games, Bauereisen has scored six times and is, statistically, the third most dangerous player in her team. She has now played 62 professional games with 12 goals and three assists.

Three facts about Nele Bauereisen

  • In 13 league appearances in this 2. Bundesliga season, she has scored eight goals.
  • Bauereisen is now the tallest player in the squad of the Iron Ladies.
  • One of her favourite mottos in life is: "Worries are like spaghetti. You always make too much of them”

The views on the transfer

Nele Bauereisen is looking forward to her new challenge: “‘When I played against Union in the first half of the season, I was thrilled by the way the team performed. Union play an attacking and attractive brand of football that suits my style perfectly. I'm confident that I can help the team.”

‘With Nele, we're gaining an attacking player who is sure-footed and dangerous on both feet. She impressively demonstrated her qualities at 1. FC Nürnberg and has once again shown her quality in front of goal this season. We are convinced that she will further strengthen our attacking play and welcome her to Köpenick,’ emphasised Jennifer Zietz, director of women's professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
