Union's Women out for Revenge
Away Trip to Eintracht II

On Sunday, 30 March 2025, 1. FC Union Berlin's women's team will travel to play Eintracht Frankfurt II in the 20th game of the 2. Bundesliga season. After their one-and-a-half-year unbeaten streak came to an end in the first half of the season against Eintracht II, Union are now seeking revenge. Kick off at the Stadion am Brentanobad is at 14:00.
The lie of the land
Eintracht Frankfurt II claimed their second consecutive win with a 1-0 away victory over FC Ingolstadt last Sunday, having only taken one point from their first four games this calendar year. This means that the team, who are not eligible for promotion, have moved back up the table and are currently in third, five points behind the leaders.
Last Sunday, Union celebrated a 6-0 win against the unbeaten this year, SC Sand. Thanks to this win, in which Naika Reissner scored her first two goals of the season, the second-placed side maintained their lead of ten points over fourth place.
The opponents
Eintracht Frankfurt II still have a realistic chance this season of surpassing their best finish in the 2. Bundesliga since merging with 1. FFC Frankfurt II in 2020. In the 2021/22 season, they finished fifth with 43 points from 26 games. Now, after a difficult start to the second half of the season against VfL Bochum (1-1), the in-form FC Bayern Munich II (1-2) and 1. FC Nürnberg (0-1), Friederike Kromp and Julia Simic's side have finally found their feet again.
Frankfurt II have been particularly strong at the back. With only 17 goals conceded, they have the third-best defence in the league behind Union (11) and HSV (12). On the other side, however, SGE have only scored 19 goals, the fourth-worst record in the league. This means that on average only 1.9 goals are scored in matches involving Frankfurt – the lowest in the league.
Their scorer's list also underlines the lack of threat. Apart from centre forward Johanna Berg, who has five this season, no other player has scored more than twice.
The head to head
Eintracht won the last ficture between the sides, 2-1, at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, ending Union's one and a half year unbeaten streak. This means the only losses in the past two years have been to a club from Frankfurt. About a month later the first team matched the feat with a 2-0 win in the DFB Pokal.
In the league game in front of 5,772 spectators, Frankfurt II took the lead through Johanna Berg and Ela Demirbas; Antonia Halverkamps scored the only goal of the day for Union.
The reunion
Tomke Schneider, who moved to Berlin-Köpenick in January, was on the pitch for Frankfurt II the last time the sides met. The centre-back had been playing for the SGE's U20 team since 2020, playing 61 competitive games during that time. Just in time for the reunion with her former club, the 20-year-old celebrated her comeback last Sunday after a one-month injury break and could thus face her old teammates at the weekend.
Furthermore, Cara Bösl and Leonie Köster also have a past with Frankfurt. Bösl played for 1. FFC Frankfurt/Eintracht from 2012 to 2024 and made 45 appearances for the U20 team. Köster was under contract with SGE from 2020 to 2023 and made 17 appearances for the second team.
the personnel
Union head coach Ailien Poese will have to do without Maria Cristina Lange, Leonie Köster, Charleen Niesler, Sophie Trojahn, Marie Becker, Ida Heikkinen, Fatma Sakar and Nele Bauereisen on Sunday due to injury. In addition, Celine Frank is missing after her fifth yellow card in the game against SC Sand.
The coaches views ahead of the game
"Eintracht Frankfurt II are a young and strong team, that press aggressively and break quickly and create a lot of shots. We want to take our defensive intensity from the last game into the game, be variable in our attacking solutions and create, and take, our scoring chances."
