Union Women to Play Elche CF

Tomorrow, Tuesday. 1. FC Union Berlin’s women’s first team face their first challenge of the year when they face Spanish third division side Elche CF. The game will take place in the training centre in Campoamor that they have occupied since Friday. Kick off is at 19:30.
The opponents
After being relegated from the third-tier Segunda División Grupo Sur in 2021/22, Elche were directly promoted back last season under Javier Aguado Martínez, head coach since the summer of 2023. It is his first time in this role, having previously worked for several years as an athletics coach, video analyst and assistant coach in the Primera División, Spain's top division.
Under Martínez, the promoted team, the second youngest in the league with an average age of 21.6 years, are enjoying a successful season and are in seventh place in the 2nd tier with 22 points after 14 games. Elche also have the league's top scorer in Andrea Herrero. The 27-year-old striker has already scored ten goals this season and has played a key role in the team's success. With 29 goals, Elche have scored the most goals in the league so far.
