Marie Becker Stays at 1. FC Union Berlin

Defender Marie Becker will continue to play for the women's team of 1. FC Union Berlin. The 28-year-old has extended her contract and will remain in Köpenick.

Born in Kiel, Becker joined Union for the 2021/22 season, having previously played for Viktoria Mitte, Harvard Crimson and Holstein Kiel, the former German junior international has already made 34 league appearances for Union. She has appeared in 17 matches so far this season and has been an an integral part of the best defence in all five regional leagues. In 20 league games, Union have only conceded five goals so far.

The views on the extension

"It's incredibly impressive to see how the club is driving forward the professionalisation of the women's and girls' section and how the team is constantly developing in footballing terms,” said a happy Becker on her new deal. “I am very grateful to be able to continue to be part of this process and this great team and look forward to the challenges in the coming season."

Meanwhile Jennifer Zietz, Union’s director of women’s and girls’ football had this to say, "Marie has been an absolute anchor of our defence this season. With a lot of courage and commitment, she ensures that our defence stands firm. We're delighted that she's staying with us."
