Opposition Check: Chemnitz building again
Chemnitzer FC boasts a huge tradition since the club's establishment in 1966. It was founded as Karl-Marx-Stadt FC but renamed in 1990. Although the club has enjoyed success in the former GDR championship, recent years have been marked by financial difficulties. Chemnitz bounced back from bankruptcy and earned promotion to the third division last season. Three former Union players played a key role in that triumph: head coach David Bergner, assistant Sreto Ristic and Thomas Sobotzik, the Managing Director for Sports at Chemnitzer FC.
