Union to Face Armenia Bielefeld
Away Trip for the Cup 2nd Round
In the second round of the DFB Pokal, 1. FC Union Berlin will face third-division club DSC Arminia Bielefeld. The match will be played at their traditional Alm-Stadion.
The opponents
DSC Arminia were relegated from the second tier in the 2022-23 season and managed to stay in the third division last season. They are currently fifth in the table after four matches and progressed to the 2nd round of the cup by beating Hannover 96, 2-0.
During today's draw at the Dortmund Football Museum, the newly crowned Olympic champion Sonja Greinacher drew the lots. At the Summer Olympics in Paris, Greinacher, together with Svenja Brunckhorst, Elisa Mevius and Marie Reichert, caused an unexpected sensation when in 3x3 basketball, they secured the gold medal in the final against Spain with a narrow 17-16 victory.
"Bielefeld already proved in the first round against Hannover 96 that it won't be easy to beat them at home at the Alm," said Union's director of men's professional football, Horst Heldt on the completion of the draw. "Our aim is to progress to the next round and so, as always, we will prepare well for our opponents."
The second round of the DFB Pokal will take place from 29-30 October 2024, the exact dates have yet to be announced.
