Union meet Hannover in Thursday friendly

While the international break forces the Bundesliga to take a break, 1. FC Union Berlin will look to add valuable minutes with a friendly against Hannover at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Thursday's kick-off is at 17:00 and gates open an hour before.

Review

1. FC Union Berlin picked up three points for the first time this season, beating Mainz 4-0 at the Alte Försterei last Friday. Max Kruse's first start was rewarded by his first goal for 1. FC Union Berlin after just 13 minutes. Jan-Moritz Lichte was shown in as Mainz head coach earlier in the week following the dismissal of Achim Beierlorzer amid ongoing tussles with players in the dressing room due to salary cuts. Mainz competed for the half, but in the second half, Union came out on top with an impressively clinical performance. Marcus Ingvartsen added a second on 49 minutes from Christopher Trimmel's cross, while the Austrian international supplied the goods for Marvin Friedrich to score in the 63rd minute. Joel Pohjanpalo was introduced for the first time and scored within about 30 seconds of being on the pitch. The 4-0 win over Mainz is Union's highest winning margin in the Bundesliga.

Opposition

Kenan Kocak's Hannover will be in good spirits after last weekend's derby win over Eintracht Braunschweig. The 4-1 win moves the Reds on to six points after three matches, which is a promising start for the former Bundesliga outfit. Martin Koblyanski gave Braunschweig a lead after 51 minutes but Hannover responded impressively to win the game in emphatic fashion. Linton Maina equalised three minutes later before goals Henrik Weydant, Niklas Hult and Genki Haraguchi added shine to the win.

Personnel

Urs Fischer will use the opportunity to tweak some aspects to his side against competitive opposition. "Hannover have lot of Bundesliga experience and they are one of the absolute top teams in the 2.Bundesliga," said the Swiss coach. "They have been able to strengthen their position in the current transfer period and are coming into this with a good tailwind from their derby victory. We would like to use this game to stay in rhythm and try out new things." Christian Gentner, Anthony Ujah and Nico Schlotterbeck are unavailable for selection through injury, while Trimmel and Pohjanpalo are on international duty.
