Union extend contract with Tim Skarke
Skarke’s New Deal:
The men's team of 1. FC Union Berlin will continue to rely on the services of Tim Skarke in the future. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has signed a new contract and will remain with the club.
Flexibility as a major strength
After joining Union, Tim Skarke was part of the team that finished the first half of the 2022/23 season in 4th place in the Bundesliga table. He made six appearances by that winter – three in the league, two in the UEFA Europa League and one in the DFB Pokal – before joining FC Schalke 04 on loan.
After strong performances in nine games for the Gelsenkirchen club, the Heidenheim-born player returned to the Alte Försterei in the summer of 2023. Back in Berlin, he completed the entire pre-season and a few days after 1. FC Union Berlin's 4-1 win over SV Darmstadt 98, he joined the club for which he had already played before moving to Köpenick on loan. In his second spell at Darmstadt, the quick and mobile right-footer once again became an important member of the starting lineup, playing 30 games and scoring eight goals and providing two assists.
In the current season, the former Germany U21 international has appeared in every game for Union so far – sometimes as a centre forward, sometimes as a deep-lying forward – and provided the assist for the László Bénes’ important equaliser in the 1-1 draw against FSV Mainz 05.
Comments on the extension
“I'm pleased that Union are planning with me in mind and that we will continue on our path together,” said Skarke on the signing of his new deal. “The last two years haven't always been easy for me, so I'm all the more optimistic that we'll have a successful season. I'm dying to give it my all and help the team with good performances.”
“With Tim, we are tying a player to us who shows full commitment every day,” said Union’s director of men’s professional football, Horst Heldt, meanwhile. “No matter whether it's in training or in a game. In addition, with his speed, flexibility and finishing skills, he is an important part of our squad and also leads the way in the dressing room. We are pleased that we have reached an agreement and can count on Tim.”
