Union Berlin welcome Altglienicke to Alte Försterei

Hours after our game against 1. FC Köln on Monday, Urs Fischer's squad will be put through their paces again at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The Köpenick club will warmly welcome VSG Altglienicke, who play in the German fourth division, known as the Regionalliga. The match is scheduled for 18:00 on Tuesday August 14.

Mattuschka, Quiring and co: The Blue and White Connection

VSG — which means Volkssport Gemeinschaft in full — have been playing in the Regionalliga Nordost since last year and have been able to consolidate their place in the fourth tier. Andreas Zimmermann's team have jumped up two leagues in two seasons, winning both championships along the way.

Many Altglienicke players have connections to the Alte Försterei. Our Berlin neighbours have one of our "football gods" in their ranks in the shape of Torsten Mattuschka who is now the assistant coach at the club. Christopher Quiring, Chinedu Edu and Björn Brunnemann are three players in the Altglienicke side to have worn our red and white colours.
