Union Berlin to play Spanish side Celta Vigo

1. FC Union Berlin will play Celta Vigo of Spain at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday August 3 at 16:00.

The friendly match, presented by IFA, is one of the traditional dates in the calendar as we prepare for competitive league action. With Bundesliga football on the horizon, the match is put back another couple of weeks ahead of both the opening weekend against RB Leipzig and the DFB Pokal clash at VfB Germania Halberstadt in August.

The Galicians finished in a surprisingly low 17th position in Spain's La Liga last season. But Fran Escriba's team have been stable in the top division since 2012 and have reached Europe in recent seasons. In 2016-17, Eduardo Berizzo's men enjoyed a historic UEFA Europa League campaign, reaching the semi-finals but losing to Manchester United. Success has been hard to come by for Celta Vigo fans — the last Spanish Cup final was in 2001.

Tickets for the match are available immediately from the Union-Zeughaus at Ring-Center, the stadium or Bahnhofstraße in Köpenick. They are also available online.

The IFA is the worldwide leading exhibition for consumer electronics and home appliances. It will take place in Berlin from September 6 until September 11.
