1. FC Union Berlin have been draw against FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the first round of the DFB Pokal. The clash in Thüringen will be scheduled between August 17-20, 2018.

The two teams will meet in a pre-season friendly on Sunday July 1 to mark half a century since Union claimed the FDGB Pokal title. 

"There would have been a few easier draws in the first round of the German Cup. However, for Carl Zeiss Jena, and as well as for us, it is an attractive draw that excites many people. The fact that we will meet twice in a short time as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of our FDGB-Pokal victory certainly makes it even more special. Nevertheless, we are going into the match as the favourite and want to move into the next round," said Managing Director for Professional Football, Oliver Ruhnert.
