Union Berlin take on Wolfsburg in Austria
Match Preview:
The next opportunity to get minutes under the belt for 1. FC Union Berlin is on Saturday at 15:00, when the promoted club heads to Austria to face Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.
Urs Fischer's team will look to replicate away match conditions against the Wolves at the Maximarkt-Sportpark in Anif, near Salzburg.
Pre-season review: Both teams unbeaten in bounce games
During the summer period, Union Berlin have played five friendly matches and are still to experience defeat this season. Fischer's new-look side opened the season officially with a 2-1 win over Danish top-flight club Brondby in Köpenick. At the training camp in Windischgarsten, Union came out on top against three Austrian teams — winning 3-0 against both SV Ried and Blau-Weiss Linz before seeing off First Vienna FC 4-1. On Union's return to Germany, the Bundesliga outfit drew 1-1 at Erzgebirge Aue last Saturday with Anthony Ujah getting on the scoresheet.
This weekend's opponents Wolfsburg are under new management for this season following the appointment of Oliver Glasner as head coach. Wolfsburg picked up early wins against Hansa Rostock and French side Caen, but were held against VVV Venlo. The Wolves' most recent results have come against strong opposition — a 2-0 win over PSV Eindhoven and a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce.
Record: Six even encounters
Union and Wolfsburg have met on six occasions. The only competitive meeting was in 1991-92 when the Wolves ran out comfortable winners. This season, Union will head to the Volkswagen-Arena on the seventh week of the campaign: the weekend of Saturday October 5. The return league fixture takes place in Köpenick on the weekend of Saturday February 2, 2020.
Service: Tickets available at the stadium
The box offices will be open on matchday and tickets can be purchased from around 3 hours before kick-off on Saturday.
