Union Berlin sign Florian Hübner from Hannover
New addition
Florian Hübner has completed his move from Bundesliga side Hannover to 1. FC Union Berlin and bolsters our defensive options for the coming season. The 27-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with the Köpenick club.
"Union is a top name in the 2.Bundesliga and I’m sure that my qualities can quickly come through here. It’s all about getting together quickly and being successful in the game. This is the best way to convince and inspire people," said Hübner after signing at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
Hübner’s career began at Wehen Wiesbaden where he progressed to the first-team in 2010. A year later, he joined Borussia Dortmund’s U23 side and made 48 appearances in the lower divisions. He spent three successful seasons at SV Sandhausen before joining Hannover where he celebrated promotion back to the Bundesliga in 2016/17. Last season, he made nine appearances in the top division for the Reds.
"Florian Hübner was our number one target for centre back,” said Oliver Ruhnert, the Managing Director for Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin. “With his physical presence, experience and abilities in the air, he will strengthen our defence for the new season. I’m pleased that we managed to get this over the line."
The 1.93cm-tall defender has a valid contract for both the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga and will wear the number 19 shirt next term.
