Union Berlin sign Cedric Teuchert
Attacker joins from Schalke:
1. FC Union Berlin have completed the signing of attacker Cedric Teuchert from Schalke.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at 2.Bundesliga club Hannover and signs a contract, which is valid for both the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga.
The Franconian joined the academy of 1. FC Nürnberg at the age of 13 and reached the first-team at his local club. Teuchert scored 11 goals in 45 games for Nürnberg and earned a transfer to Schalke in the Bundesliga in 2018. Last season, Teuchert went on loan to Hannover and added six goals to his account. For the national team, Teuchert has featured regularly for the U21s, scoring in all of his eight appearances.
"I'm looking forward to Union and the Bundesliga. After my first season at Schalke didn't live up to my expectations, I want to go forward again and I'm ready for the new challenge. The club wants to establish itself in the Bundesliga and that is also my personal goal. I'm looking forward to learning from experienced players and bringing a breath of fresh air into the team," the 23-year-old said after confirming his transfer.
"In Cedric we have gained a talented striker who isn't just a strong dribbler but also intelligent. If you observe his style of play more closely, the way he chooses to finish is one that can be described as cheeky but also quite clever. He is definitely a young and talented player, who also works hard defensively," said Oliver Ruhnert, Director for Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
