1. FC Union Berlin were kept on their toes during the international break, drawing 1-1 in a behind closed doors game against 2.Bundesliga rivals Dynamo Dresden.

Urs Fischer’s team made a bright start to the game, scoring inside the third minute when Simon Hedlund put pressure on the Dresden defence in their own box. The Swede wrestled the ball back and played the easy ball to Redondo, who finished off from close range. From there, Dynamo Dresden created the better chances in the remainder of the half with Jannis Nikolaou’s shot coming close and Baris Atik volleying narrowly wide of the target. Union were forced into an earlier-than-planned substitution as Lennard Maloney picked up an injury in the first period.

Eroll Zejnullahu threatened Tim Boss’ goal after the restart of play, but Maik Walpurgis’ side — who claimed a 0-0 draw last month at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei — equalised on 59 minutes. Atik picked up the ball on the right side, dribbled inside into a dangerous shooting position and fired past sub goalie Lennart Moser. Union almost restored the lead within four minutes when Christopher Schößwendter hit the post from a corner kick. After Niklas Kreuzer missed a fine chance for the away side, Sebastian Andersson missed the target from a few yards out with eight minutes to go.
