Union Berlin beaten 3-1 at home to Altglienicke

1. FC Union Berlin's second-string team went down 3-1 to fourth-division outfit VSG Altglienicke at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in Köpenick on Tuesday night.

Christian Preiss' strike gave VSG a first-half lead at the interval. Daniel Eitdner, one of six top-team debutants from the U19 Bundesliga squad, cut the home side's deficit less than a minute into the second half. But Andreas Zimmermann's side added goals from Benjamin Förster and Christian Skoda to wrap up a convincing friendly win for Altglienicke.

1. FC Union Berlin: Busk; Lenz (Alimler 46), Hübner (Schösswendter 46), Dietz (Werner 46), Ryerson; Kroos (Dehl 60), Maloney (Rankic 86), Zejnuhallu (Cinar 70); Kurzweg, Taz, Gogia (Eitdner 46)

VSG Altglienicke: Twardzik; Steinhauer, Skoda, Bache, Pepic (Marx 46), Donner, Preiss (Ede 46), Pütt (Cami 60), Quiring (Müller 60), Brunnemann (Förster 46), Brehmer

Tuesday’s match at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei was an opportunity for those not involved in last night’s 1-1 draw at 1. FC Köln to get some game time. Jakob Busk, who replaced Rafal Gikiewicz between the posts, was kept busy by an ambitious approach from Andreas Zimmermann’s team. Altglienicke featured several familiar faces to Union supporters including Christopher Quiring, Björn Brunnemann and current assistant coach Torsten Mattuschka.

The Danish keeper tipped over Preiss’ header at the back post on 10 minutes before denying Nico Donner who was through one-against-one on 16 minutes. After Rico Steinhauer’s strike from distance, Preiss fired past Busk from distance on 32 minutes in front of the Waldseite. Christian Skoda was presented with a similar opportunity four minutes later but Busk put his frame in the way. Late in the half, the hosts created an excellent chance to level with Eroll Zejnuhallu firing wide from Berkan Taz’s cut back.

Among the four changes at the interval, Jannes Werner, Daniel Eitdner and Berkan Alimler made their first-team debuts at the Alte Försterei. Less than a minute into the half, number 10 Eitdner ran behind the Altglienicke defence to grab the equaliser for the home side. His usual industrious self, Zejnuhallu forced the issue on 59 minutes, driving into the box but only getting as far as Dan Twardzik. Laurenz Dehl, Stefan Rankic, Can Cinar came on in the final 30 minutes to make their first-team debuts for the Köpenick club.

Benjamin Förster put Altglienicke back in front after 70 minutes following some slack defending in the Union reargued. The locals scored again four minutes later through Christian Skoda who converted from the penalty spot. Urs Fischer's side turn their attention to Sunday's DFB Pokal first round encounter against FC Carl Zeiss Jena.
