Trimmel & Götz named Footballers of 19/20 Season
Double success:
A week before the start of competitive football, 1. FC Union Berlin can celebrate the first success of the season. Both Christopher Trimmel and Nathalie Götz have won the prizes for Berlin Footballer of the Year in season 2019/20.
The 33-year-old club captain of the men's team was rewarded by a public vote due to his contribution in Union's first-ever Bundesliga campaign.
"I'm really happy to have been given Berlin's Footballer of the Year for 19/20. Awards are always a sign of appreciation and they fill me with pride. I would like to thank all Union fans and every single person at Union Berlin," said Trimmel.
Meanwhile, Nathalie Götz took the award for the women's team after a successful season which saw the squad narrowly miss out on promotion to the 2.Bundesliga. Union's women's team finished in fourth place before the abandonment of the campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"With an award like this, one can be relaxed. I'm very proud and grateful for this. But this is not only my merit, but the result of the support from my family and the work of the coaching staff at Union. Everybody made sure I enjoyed coming to training and I have felt comfortable here from the first moment," said Götz after saying farewell to the football business.
