The Season Starts With Double-Header and Youngster Cup
Men's and Women's Sides Face top Opposition
Both professional teams of 1. FC Union Berlin will play friendlies at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday, 3 August. After Ailien Poese’s women play against SV Werder Bremen at 13:00, Bo Svensson's men’s team will take on Olympique Lyon at 17:00.
The opponents
Head coach Thomas Horsch's Bremen team finished seventh in the women's Bundesliga last season, finishing 13 points clear of the relegation places and leaving five other clubs behind. That seventh place was Werder's best finish in the top flight of women's football.
In the French Ligue 1, Olympique Lyon only finished sixth on the 34th and final matchday of the 2023/24 season, thus securing their ticket to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. The seven-time champions, who won all their titles between 2002 and 2008, are also the former home of Lucas Tousart. Union's midfield engine played a total of 165 games for "OL" between 2015 and 2020.
The Union team, their coaching and support staff for the 2024/25 season will be presented before each match.
