Searing heat and intensive training
Bad Saarow Report:
The first training camp of pre-season is in the bag and the preparation for the new campaign has been turned into second gear. Urs Fischer's side enjoyed an intensive but rewarding fitness camp in Bad Saarow with many of the new faces from this summer's squad changes getting to know each other.
Khedira ill, Seguin came later
At the Hotel Esplanande and Resort, Union's pre-season work kicked off on Thursday. Training was held at the facilities of SV Eintracht Reichenwalde without Union's national team players in attendance. Genki Haraguchi, Tymoteusz Puchacz, Julian Ryerson, Andras Schäfer and Christopher Trimmel will join up with the squad imminently. Rani Khedira, however, missed out of the camp due to a small illness and Paul Seguin joined up with the team on Friday. Fabio Schneider is working back from injury in Berlin while Pawel Wszolek is still on holiday.
Rhythm and team building
While there was plenty of hard work on the pitch, there was also a lot of fun in the camp. The new players got accustomed to Union's ways of working, with athletic coach Martin Krüger leading most of the sessions. He pushed the players to the limits with a routine of strength exercises. The hard work was rewarded with some down time activities. The players showed their talented skills in kayaking, padding and volleyball.
First friendly on Wednesday
The boys will enjoy two free days to recover before returning on Tuesday for training. Our first friendly of the summer is scheduled for Wednesday June 29 at 18:00 at the Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark. Tickets for the first match against Viktoria Berlin can be purchased here.
