The DFB — Germany's Football Federation — have confirmed the official schedule for the first round of the German Cup.

On Saturday September 12 at 18:30, 1. FC Union Berlin will play the first competitive match of the new campaign against Karlsruher SC at the Wildparkstadion.

Urs Fischer's team will play the 2.Bundesliga outfit to kick off the cup competition, in which Union reached the last 16 last season, losing to Bayer Leverkusen.

Union's best performance in the DFB Pokal was in 2000/2001 where the Köpenick club reached the final in Berlin, going down to Schalke.
