Paul Seguin to join from Greuther Fürth
New face for the summer:
1. FC Union Berlin have taken their first steps towards the new season with the signing of 26-year-old midfielder Paul Seguin from Greuther Fürth.
Seguin will be the first summer transfer for Oliver Ruhnert and the club. He joins from Greuther Fürth who made his loan move permanent following a successful spell at the club. Alongside Paul Jaeckel, Seguin helped Fürth to the Bundesliga and he has been a mainstay in the midfield this season for Stefan Leitl's team. His career started via 1. FC Lok Stendal before he joined Wolfsburg in 2007 to develop in the academy of the Wolves. He won the German youth championship in 2012/13 with a promotion to Wolfsburg's U23s who were competing in first-team professional football. He made 22 Bundesliga appearances before going to Dynamo Dresden and then on to Fürth.
"I didn't grow up too far from Berlin, so I have followed the club for several years," said Seguin on his transfer to Union. "It's impressive how Union have fought their way into the Bundesliga while always remaining true to themselves. With my performance, I want to contribute to continuing the club's development over the past few years next season and I'm looking forward to my new role in Berlin-Köpenick," commented Paul Seguin on his move to the Eisernen.
"We are pleased to have reached an early agreement and are convinced that Paul's style of play fits us very well. In addition, he is in his prime as a footballer, has gained important experience as a professional footballer and has now played a few games at Bundesliga level. That will certainly help him to quickly find his feet with us," said Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin's Managing Director for Professional Football.
