In the winter of last season, the 20-year-old made the move on loan from Bayern to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Union triggered the buy option on the deal and he signed permanently from the record German champions in the summer. Now, Dajaku will continue his career at the Black Cats in the third-tier of English football.

"As a result of injury and illness, it was difficult for Leon to play his way into the team. That's why we're happy to now go this route with him, to be able to give him the playing practice he wants. We consider this step to be purposeful for his further development," said Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin's Managing Director for Professional Football.
