Commitment to youth:
1. FC Union Berlin have committed to another academy graduate with goalkeeper Leo Oppermann receiving his first professional contract at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
The 18-year-old made the switch from Berliner SC to Union and is this season between the sticks for our youth team in the U19 Bundesliga. Oppermann trained with the first-team in the winter camp but has now made that a regular feature alongside Rafal Gikiewicz, Moritz Nicolas and Jakob Busk. After successfully completing the theory element of his vocational diploma at the Berlin School & Sports Centre, he will finish the practical part with Union.
“Leo Oppermann is a young goalkeeper with a lot of potential. It is in our interest to give our youth players a chance to present themselves at the highest level and to develop more in first-team training. Leo should now get that opportunity,” said Oliver Ruhnert, Director for Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
Oppermann has received a professional contract until June 2020 with the option of a further year, which is valid for Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga & 3.Liga competition.
