Joshua Mees joins Union Berlin from Hoffenheim
Sixth signing:
Joshua Mees is the latest addition to Urs Fischer’s squad as preparations continue ahead of the 2018/19 2.Bundesliga season.
The 22-year-old forward has joined on a three-year-deal at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei from parent club TSG Hoffenheim. Mees spent last season on loan in the 2.Bundesliga with Jahn Regensburg, where he notched up six goals and set up another three in 22 appearances. Mees is the sixth new signing of the summer transfer window.
"For me, the move to Union Berlin is another step forward. I know the league well now and know exactly what to expect and what is expected from me. Union are an exceptional club and I’m looking forward to it. The ambitions of the club are both an incentive and an obligation. I want to prove myself here," said the attacker.
Born in Saarland, Mees started out in the youths of 1. FC Saarbrücken before moving to Hoffenheim at the age of 15. The German U20 international won the youth championship at Hoffenheim before going out on loan to both Freiburg and Jahn Regensburg in the second division. His performances over two seasons in the second tier have earned him a move to the capital.
"Joshua Mees is a promising young player who has played consistently well over the past season and has already set a course for himself in the 2.Bundesliga. We want to develop that further and we’re convinced he’ll continue on such a successful path with us. I’m sure this will make us stronger from an attacking point of view," added Oliver Ruhnert, Director for Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
The 22-year-old will wear the number 8 shirt next season.
