Jamie Leweling Stays in Stuttgart
Buying Option Exercised
VfB Stuttgart have exercised their option to buy Jamie Leweling, who will therefore leave 1. FC Union Berlin after two years.
Loan to VfB after several brief appearances for Union
The right winger, who moved to 1. FC Union Berlin in the summer of 2022, had a challenging first year. Although he played a total of 25 times for Union, the majority of his appearances were as a substitute. Nevertheless, there were special moments, such as his late assist for the winning goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach and his first goal for Union against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. In addition to his performances in the Bundesliga, Leweling was also active in Europe, where he played seven games in the UEFA Europa League.
The attacking all-rounder was loaned out to VfB Stuttgart in the last summer transfer window. Born in Nuremberg, he has made 34 appearances for the Swabians in the Bundesliga, scoring four goals and providing six assists.
The views on the transfer
"Although my time at 1. FC Union Berlin was quite short, I was able to experience a special season for the club," said Leweling on the deal. "I'm very grateful for that, but now I'm looking forward even more to a familiar but also new challenge."
Oliver Ruhnert, Union's director of men's professional football, commented meanwhile, "Jamie rose to his challenge and was able to make good use of his time at VfB Stuttgart. It is therefore logical that he and VfB want to continue on this path. We wish him continued success."
