Hosiner completes move to Sturm Graz
Philipp exits:
1. FC Union Berlin and Philipp Hosiner will go their separate ways this summer with the 29-year-old striker moving back to his homeland to join SK Sturm Graz.
Hosiner has been in Köpenick since 2016 following previous spells at 1. FC Köln, Rennes, Austria Vienna and Admira Wacker, among others. The Austrian scored 8 goals for Union in 47 competitive matches (44 2.Bundesliga, 3 DFB Pokal), setting another three for his team-mates.
“Philipp always gave everything for the club at all times and he didn’t let setbacks get him down,” said Oliver Ruhnert, Director of Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin. “It was important for him to have the opportunity to play in Europe again in his career — we fulfilled this wish of his. We would like to thank Philipp for his commitment and wish him and his new club the best of success for the future.”
“I’d like to thank the whole club, all those responsible and especially the team for two super years. Union are a great club, which I will continue to follow in the future, and whom I only wish the best,” added Hosiner.
The former Austrian international’s contract, which runs until June 2019, will be terminated with immediate effect. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the amount of the transfer fee.
