Haji Wright trains with Union first-team

1. FC Union Berlin have invited attacker Haji Wright for a trial period at the training camp in Klosterpforte. The 20-year-old, who is still under contract at Schalke, was on loan at 2.Bundesliga club SV Sandhausen where he made 15 appearances, scoring once.

An U19 international for the United States, Wright hails from Los Angeles and was on the books of New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League (NASL) until the end of 2015. He moved to Gelsenkirchen to join Schalke in March 2016 but wasn't eligible to play for the remainder of the campaign.

The following season, the 1.93m striker Wright scored 11 goals and set up 11 in 24 matches for the U19 side of Schalke. His form was rewarded with a professional contract in July 2017 before he was loaned out to Sandhausen shortly afterwards.

Over the next few days, Wright has the opportunity to show his ability to head coach Urs Fischer and prove his worth to the club ahead of the 2.Bundesliga start in August.
