From Berlin to Belgium

1. FC Union Berlin and midfielder Kevin Möhwald are going their separate ways after almost two years. The 29-year-old is joining Belgian first division club KAS Eupen.

From the 2. Liga to the UEFA Europa Conference-League

Having started the 2021/22 season with Werder Bremen, the Erfurt-born former Germany U20 international moved to Köpenick at the end of the transfer window in August 2021. He went on to make 21 appearances for the Eisernen, three of them in the UEFA Europa Conference-League. But minor injuries and the ever-increasing competition for his position in central midfield prevented him from achieving more playing time, especially last season.

The views on the move

Despite his transfer, Möhwald does not regret his time at Union: "What the club has achieved in recent years is incredible. Of course I would have liked to have contributed more, but I'm still grateful for the experiences and adventures. I will continue to follow the club's progress, but am now looking forward to a new challenge."

"We wish Kevin only the best for his future,” said Union’s director of professional football, Oliver Ruhnert, on the transfer. “For him personally, a new sporting challenge makes the most sense, which is why we welcome his move to Eupen."
