1. FC Union Berlin's four-game winning run at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei was ended by Hoffenheim on Tuesday night. Urs Fischer's side were competitive and turned in a good performance, but lost ground on Alfred Schreuder's team in the second half. Ihlas Bebou's deflected effort on 56 minutes looped over Rafal Gikiewicz to give the visitors the lead. After recent home wins against Hertha, Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln, there was belief of a comeback among the Union faithful. Sebastian Andersson was denied by an excellent Oliver Baumann save with seven minutes to play before Hoffenheim sealed the points with Christoph Baumgartner's injury-time goal.
Fortuna Düsseldorf currently occupy one of the relegation positions in the Bundesliga. Friedhelm Funkel's men are on a losing streak, including their last two home matches against RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Düsseldorf lost ground to rivals Augsburg in the relegation fight, going down 0-3 away from home. Philipp Max netted two himself and assisted Tim Jedvaj's goal on Tuesday night, but Düsseldorf will be keen to end their year on a high on home turf.
