Fabio Schneider Joins Greifswalder SC
Transfer to the Regionalliga
Midfielder Fabio Schneider is leaving 1. FC Union Berlin to join Greifswalder FC.
The Berlin native moved to Union from TSV Rudow in 2015 at the age of 13. In the 2017/18 season Schneider became an important part of the U-17 Bundesliga squad, becoming a regular on the team sheet, playing in 24 of a possible 26 games and being involved in 11 goals during the 2018/19 season.
Over the next two years the 20 year old midfielder moved his way up through the U-19s, eventually signing his first professional contract, and joining Union's squad for the 2021/22 UEFA Europa Conference League. For the second half of last season, the right-footed Schneider was loaned to Kuopion PS in Finland, where he made a total of four appearances (one of which for the 2nd team.) An injury during his time there prevented more playing time.
Schneider never played for the first team during his time at Union, so is now hoping for more playing time in Greifswald. The Regionalliga Nordost club are currently 13th in the table after 15 matches.
"I thank Union for the wonderful time and am glad that the club allowed me to realise my dream of playing football. Though I am very happy about this opportunity, I'll continue to wish the club and the boys all the best for the future," said Fabio Schneider on his departure from the Alte Försterei.
Oliver Ruhnert, director of professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin said "Fabio is a homegrown Unioner and has always behaved impeccably. His career is far from over, even though he didn't make it as far as the pro's with us. We hope that he can continue his development in Greifswald and wish him all the best for the future.
