Eight Unioners on the Road

October’s Bundesliga season will be interrupted by the international break. A total of eight players from the 1. FC Union Berlin men's first team squad have been called up to represent their nations.

The nominees

Left-back Jérôme Roussillon has received his next invitation from the Guadeloupe national team. The Caribbean side played two CONCAF Nations League B matches against Costa Rica (0-3) and Suriname (1-0) in September. They will now face two matches against their neighbours Martinique.

Defender Leopold Querfeld is in the Austrian national team squad for the upcoming international matches. The 20-year-old centre back was brought on for around 30 minutes in the game against Norway a month ago and can now hope for more playing time in Ralf Rangnick's team. After a draw against Slovenia in the opening game of group B and the defeat against the Scandinavians, the Austrians want to do better against Kazakhstan and again against Norway.

Frederik Rönnow missed the last international trip due to an injury but will now travel with his Danish teammates again. Union's goalkeeper will certainly have followed the flawless start in his home country, as the Danes won 2-0 against both Switzerland and Serbia in the UEFA Nations League. As the leaders of Group 4, Denmark will face European champions Spain. They will then face Switzerland again.

László Bénes and Slovakia are looking to continue their good start to the UEFA Nations League by adding to their opening wins over Estonia and Azerbaijan. The 26-time international will first face co-leaders Sweden, who are level on points, before facing Azerbaijan three days later in the return game.

The third and fourth matchdays of the UEFA Nations League are also important for András Schäfer and his team. After Hungary lost 5-0 to Germany and then failed to get past a 0-0 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina, they now face the Netherlands and Bosnia in the second leg in Group A.

It is a busy time for Germany’s U19 national team, with three games on the programme in the coming days. Oluwaseun Ogbemudia's three-time U19 European champions will face the junior teams from Spain, Norway and hosts Romania in a tournament of nations.

The German U20 national team are once again to rely on the services of Union's latest Bundesliga starting XI debutant. Aljoscha Kemlein, who has now made ten appearances for the DFB's U20 team, will face Poland with the team of coach Hannes Wolf, before taking on the Black Stars' youth, Ghana's U20 team.

One age group higher, Tom Rothe is hoping for further appearances for Germany. The U21 team, managed by Antonio Di Salvo, also want to defend first place in the table on the last two matchdays of the qualifiers for the U21 European Championship and collect further important points against Bulgaria and Poland.
