Day 3: A day of changes
Training Diary:
Though Union Berlin's pre-season routine remained intact, Tuesday was a day of many changes at the training camp in Klosterpforte.
Firstly, the players and coaching staff moved location inside the camp, changing from the third pitch to one much closer to the hotel. If this was good, what followed didn't exactly help - a thunderous downpour and ever-changing weather.
Head coach Urs Fischer ramped up the intensity with a focus on attacking moves and finishing inside the penalty box. In the afternoon, the players focused on spreading the ball from flank-to-flank with a view of unsettling the opponents. Fitness coach Martin Krüger tested the players at the end with a unit of strength endurance.
Werner Leuthard is a new face on the coaching team for the next few days as he cares to a couple of players with niggling injuries.
Another new face arrived at lunchtime: Schalke's Haji Wright. The American has joined up with the Köpenick club on a trial basis having spent last term on loan at 2.Bundesliga club SV Sandhausen. The US U19 international is still under contract with the Royal Blues but has the opportunity to impress Fischer in Klosterpforte.
Meanwhile, the camp said its goodbyes to former Austrian international striker Philipp Hosiner who is attending a medical with a view to signing for a new club.
