Christopher Trimmel signs new deal with Union Berlin
New contract for the captain:
1. FC Union Berlin club captain Christopher Trimmel has signed a contract, which keeps him at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei for two more years.
Two weeks before his 32nd birthday, the Austrian right-back has agreed to commit his future to the Köpenick club. Trimmel has been an integral figure at Union since joining from Rapid Vienna in 2014. He has played 146 competitive games for the club, been involved in 29 goals and was handed the captain's armband last summer.
"I have always stressed that I feel very comfortable in Berlin and especially at 1. FC Union Berlin. For me, the contract extension was only a formality and I am looking forward to being a part of this team and this club also in the future. We have a great team, it is fun to work together and I am convinced that we can achieve our goals together," said Trimmel.
"Christopher has been a formative character in the structure of our team for a long time and always makes a positive contribution both on and off the pitch. As captain of the team he is an important part of our planning for the next season, so we are happy that Christopher will stay with us," said Oliver Ruhnert, Director for Professional Football.
Trimmel's new contract with Union is valid for both Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga.
