Christopher Trimmel signs new contract
The captain stays on board:
1. FC Union Berlin captain Christopher Trimmel has put pen-to-paper on a contract extension, which will keep the Austrian defender at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei beyond the summer.
The captain has worn the red of Union since 2018 and has been part of the club's jump from 2.Bundesliga to Bundesliga. Trimmel was the captain when Union achieved their first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga in 2019, while also helping the club stabilise in Germany's top division over the first two campaigns. Overall, Trimmel has racked up 20 assists in the Bundesliga.
"I'm really happy to continue playing for Union. I've felt at home here from day one and a personal dream has come true with promotion. For us, it's all about establishing Union in the Bundesliga and adding to the first two seasons. That is and remains a challenging task that I'm happy to take on," added the 34-year-old.
"Christopher Trimmel has been part of our squad for several years and has played an important role in the team. But he isn't just a top performer on the pitch, but equally an important pillar off the pitch. We are pleased to be able to continue to include him with his experience as a key component of our team," added 1. FC Union Berlin's Managing Director for Professional Football, Oliver Ruhnert.
