Bayern Come to Berlin
Under the Floodlights of the Alte Försterei
On Saturday, April 20, 2024, FC Bayern München will be the guests at Stadion An der Alten Försterei in the evening game of the 30th Bundesliga matchday. Kick off at the Stadion an Der Alten Försterei is at 18:30
The lie of the land
After consecutive defeats against Dortmund and Heidenheim, FC Bayern managed a 2-0 home win against 1. FC Köln last weekend. In the UEFA Champions League, meanwhile, they beat Arsenal 1-0 (3-2) on Wednesday evening to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Union, on the other hand, were beaten 2-0 away at FC Augsburg, but have lost only two of their last five home games, and those coming to Champions, Leverkusen, and Dortmund.
The opponents
After eleven years of dominating the Bundesliga, FCB finally lost their title to Bayer 04 Leverkusen last week, and are currently level on points with VfB Stuttgart in second place. In total, they have 63 points from 20 wins, three draws and six defeats. Bayern's attack is the strongest in the league with 82 goals scored, but they have also conceded 36 times.
The English striker Harry Kane is particularly noteworthy, with 32 goals and 11 assists so far. He has also showed his class in the Champions League with ten goals in ten matches.
Speaking of the UEFA Champions League, even though Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel is set to leave Munich at the end of the season, the 2021 CL-winning coach is hoping to win the prestigious tournament once again. In the semi-finals, Bayern will face Union's group opponents Real Madrid.
The reunion
Benedict Hollerbach trained with Germany's record champions from U17 to U19 level, playing 45 games in the youth teams there.
The head to head
1. FC Union Berlin have never won against Bayern. In the Bundesliga, they have shared the points three times, with six games going to FC Bayern, the last of which being the 1-0 away defeat when Raphaël Guerreiro scored the only goal of the game shortly after the break.
Personnel
Head coach Nenad Bjelica will be without Jakob Busk through injury.
Pre-match statement
"Of course it's a big challenge to play against Bayern," said Bjelica during his press conference on Thursday afternoon. "But we expect to have a chance against any opponent. The entire squad is highly motivated. I hope we become more effective in front of goal and then we can score against top teams again."
Service information
As usual, the Stadion An der Alten Försterei will open two hours before kick-off. The match is sold out in both the home and away sections. As the S-Bahn service on the S3 line is interrupted, the existing rail replacement service must be used when traveling to the stadium. More information can be found here.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky and there will also be an audio stream on rbb24 Inforadio and rbb24. As usual, Union will also provide information about the match in the club's own live ticker as well as updates in English and Spanish on Twitter.
