Baumgartl to miss rest of season
OP successful:
1. FC Union Berlin will be without 26-year-old centre back Timo Baumgartl for the final home match of the Bundesliga season against VfL Bochum.
During a routine examination, the Stuttgart-born defender discovered a tumour on his testicle. Timo underwent a successful operation to remove the tumour a few days later. Further preventative treatments will follow in the coming weeks.
"Fortunately, I have been going for preventive care for several years. I'm very grateful for the quick, clear diagnosis and for the surgery that has since gone well. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the incredible support from Charité, the team doctors and the club. I will never forget that. My focus now is on recovering as quickly as possible," said Baumgartl.
"We will support Timo on his way in the best possible way. Our excellent network of absolute top physicians will continue to be available to him for this purpose. We are very grateful for this and therefore also confident that Timo will make a full recovery," added Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin's Managing Director for Professional Football.
Timo and 1. FC Union Berlin ask for understanding that he wants to focus primarily on his recovery and will not be available for media appointments for the time being.
