1. FC Union Berlin sign attacker Carlos Mané

1. FC Union Berlin have completed their second signing of the January transfer window with the addition of Portuguese attacker Carlos Manuel Cardoso Mané from Sporting Club de Portugal. The 24-year-old has signed on loan until the end of the season with an option to purchase for Bundesliga or 2.Liga.

Mané, born in Lisbon, has come through the famous Sporting Lisbon academy and earned his place in the first-team squad in 2013. In 2016, Mané joined VfB Stuttgart on a two-year loan agreement and impressed while the club was in the 2.Bundesliga. He scored six goals and assisted nine in 20 matches as the Swabians returned to the Bundesliga. However, Mané missed Stuttgart’s comeback season through a serious injury and returned to Sporting to make seven appearances this campaign.

“I have great memories of my time in Germany,” said the attacking-midfielder who will wear the number 17 shirt. “I know 1. FC Union Berlin and the 2.Bundesliga from my time there. Ever since the first contact from Union, it was clear to me that I would like to move to Berlin. Now I’m delighted that it has happened and now I want to get back on the pitch and help the team with my performances.”

“With the signing of Carlos Mané, we are strengthening our squad further. Carlos brings incredible pace and has already shown at VfB Stuttgart how valuable he can be for a team. We are delighted that we can get hold of this player,” added Oliver Ruhnert, Director for Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.

Mané will have his medical on Friday morning and join up with the squad in the afternoon. His first appearance for the club could be on Saturday against FC Basel at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
