Second half of season in review

1. FC Union Berlin's Fan & Members Department has collected all matchday feedback from the second half of the season and now can publish the results.

Fans who would like to leave feedback can do so on the FuMa website.

The aim of the matchday survey is to reveal previously undiscovered problems and bring about lasting and continued improvements for fans.

  • Arrival/Departure:

The full public transport situation at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei and time between next trains was the obvious issue during the second half of the season — as in the first half of the season. This also becomes obvious in the statistical evaluation of the journey: almost every fourth person comes by car or minibus, almost every second person by the local public transport. Tip: For parking, you can use the Forum Köpenick centre until 9pm. There were no new issues from away matches.

  • Admission:

Average score at home: 2,37

Average score away: 2,18

Best Rating: Paderborn at home 1,73, Aue away 1,40

Worst Rating: 3,10 at home to Regensburg, 2,83 in Darmstadt, 2,80 in Heidenheim

Many fans rated the entry to the stadium as quick and well organized, but also many were affected by long queues and full entry zones. Some controls were judged as too meticulous and others a little bit careless. This is also reflected in the fact that the controls of the stewards were perceived as very different. Fortunately, the scanner problems in the second half of the season have clearly decreased, while the number of lines for women being checked has still been criticized in some isolated responses. In away games, the meticulous controls were noted, particularly from the game away at 1. FC Heidenheim. Turnstiles, segregation and locks were also criticised from Bochum.

  • Stewards:

Average score at home: 2,26

Average score away: 1,88

Best Rating: 1,59 against Magdeburg

Worst Rating: 3,33 against Regensburg

The vast majority saw our stewards as helpful in the home matches. In a couple of cases, the opposite view was expressed for the matches against HSV & Regensburg. Meanwhile, the inactivity of some stewards was criticised. Tip: Even if contacting a steward supervisor or another steward doesn't help, it is important that the relevant situations are described in as much detail as possible, including a steward number in order to make the post-report as easy as possible to follow up.

  • Organisation of security:

Average score at home: 2,62

Average score away: 2,24

Best Rating: 1,70 in Bochum and home to Paderborn

Worst Rating: 4,20 against Regensburg and HSV

After the winter break, the question of security organisation was added to the survey. This doesn't just include police units, but also, among other things, the police department and security personnel at the train station. The majority of the fans' answers, however, refer to the applications of policing, which were primarily rated as reserved and pleasant — at the beginning of the year against 1. FC Köln and Sandhausen, the presence of the police was felt to be too high. At the home games against Regensburg and the HSV, a provocative and sometimes aggressive attitude was registered, especially around the away end. There were no noteworthy problems from our matches away.

  • Stadium Atmosphere:

Average score at home: 1,97

Average score away: 3,08

Best Rating: 1,65 against Magdeburg

Worst Rating: 3,78 in Stuttgart

The atmosphere at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei was perceived to be very good, with special praise for the matchday magazine, music selection and the stadium announcer. There were points of criticism around the catering and toilet situation. Poor acoustics were noted from the games against 1. FC Köln and Sandhausen but this rarely featured elsewhere. The best rating of an away match (St Pauli) still fell behind the poorest home game rating. The catering, lack of magazines at the away section and the particularly 'entertainment' feel in away stadiums was criticised.

  • Atmosphere:

Average score at home: 2,12

Average score away: 2,10

Best Rating: 1,45 in Bochum, 1,64 against Stuttgart

Worst Rating: 3,17 at St Pauli

In terms of atmosphere, these ratings from the first half of the campaign were confirmed. The atmosphere was rated positively, and especially highly towards the season finale. At home games, the high number of football tourists, inactive areas of the stadium and non match-related support continued to negatively impact the ratings. This however declined in the second half.

  • Fan Behaviour

Average score at home: 2,20

Average score away: 1,83

Best Rating: 1,33 in Darmstadt

Worst Rating: 3,11 against Stuttgart

In the return leg against Stuttgart particularly, there were numerous reports of potentially lots of aggression and disrespectful behaviour. As in the first half of the season, racist statements or symbols were occasionally noted. Tip: The stewards can give more clarity on this situation.

  • Problems with accessories:

Similar to the first half of the season, there were no clear issues with stadium accessories. Nevertheless, there were new problems for the Szene Köpenick during away matches. In Duisburg, banners were banned due to fire protection; in Darmstadt, a flag and balloons were banned; and in Stuttgart, they were not even able to discuss the approval of the choreography.
