Union shares matchday food

1. FC Union Berlin are committed to avoiding food waste after matches and are supporting Foodsharing e.V.

Founded in 2012, the Berlin-based foundation is pushing to save unused food in private households, as well as, in small and medium business with the aim of giving it to people in need. The Foodsharing initiative has become an international movement, with more than 200,000 registered users.

1. FC Union Berlin have been recently added to this list. Volunteers from Foodsharing are meeting now after every Bundesliga game in Köpenick, in order to gather remaining food for themto distribute.

The volunteers are normally packing bread rolls and other baked goods, which are then taken to Treptow-Köpenick and Schöneweide on an eco-friendly bike. The group will establish a "Fair-Share" at Schöneweide S-Bahnhof where people can take what they need at 10am on Sundays.

"The campaign has been very well received by the people," said Paula Gründler, a volunteer from Foodsharing. "Our commitment and our idea should, however, be brought to even more people's attention."
