Union Berlin top 2.Bundesliga fair play ranking
Leading the way:
1. FC Union Berlin have ended the 2017/18 2.Bundesliga season at the top of the fair play table and have bagged an extra 25,000 EUR in prize money.
The Köpenick club was honoured by the German Football League (DFL) for their respectful behaviour towards referees and opponents.
This factor is taking into account alongside the number of yellow and red cards distributed.
"We are very proud of this award," said Oliver Ruhnert, Managing Director for Professional Football. "We can only be successful in sport, if we respect each other. This applies to both our team on the park and everyone else off it, as well as, in the stands."
The prize money for finishing first place will be invested into the quickly-developing youth academy project at Union Berlin.
