With support from of the IFA, 1. FC Union Berlin will welcome a top international opponent to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in pre-season. On Saturday July 21 (18:00), six-time French champions Girondins Bordeaux will be our opponents in the final home friendly before competitive action begins.

The summer friendly, which is annually presented by the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA), marks the end of our pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign. In previous years, Union have welcomed FC Utrecht, Sevilla, Celtic and Crystal Palace to Köpenick, among others. Bordeaux finished sixth in the French Ligue 1 last season and are coached by Gus Poyet.

"Last year, we were able to present Queens Park Rangers, an English club with a great tradition, as a friendly opponent for Union. And who’d have thought that this would extend to a return match in London," said Jens Heithecker, Director of the IFA. "Now we are delighted to have Girondins Bordeaux, another top-class international team, in Köpenick."

Founded in 1881, Bordeaux are one of the great names of French football. Alongside the six titles, Bordeaux have won the French Cup four times — the most recent, a league-and-cup double in 2009. In European competitions, Bordeaux have reached the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1985, of the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987 and lost the final of the UEFA Cup in 1996.

Tickets for the match will be available online from Wednesday June 27 and from all of Union Berlin’s club stores. Children up to 12 years of age have free admission, on top of the regular price which applies. Except for Section 4, the entire stadium will be open, including the main stand where prices start from 28EUR. Free spots in the main stand are available for kids up to 12 years, but tickets are required for logistical reasons. For every ticket purchased online, two additional seat tickets for children can be booked free of charge.

For travelling supporters from Bordeaux, Section 5 will be open for fans. These tickets will only be available online.

The Internationale Funkausstelling Berlin (IFA) is the world’s most important trend show for consumer electronics and home appliances. It’s been closely associated with 1. FC Union Berlin as a cooperation partner since 2010. The IFA2018 exhibition will take place from August 31 to September 5 at the Radio Tower.
