Union Berlin receive Bundesliga & 2.Bundesliga License

1. FC Union Berlin have been awarded licenses for the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga for the coming 2019/20 season without any conditions.

"Our thanks go to all the partners, sponsors and employees involved, whose commitment contributed to this result. We are delighted about this, even if we expected it to be this way," said Oskar Kosche, Director for Licensing at 1. FC Union Berlin.

This year, 50 clubs and corporations from Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga and 3.Liga applied for licenses for one of the 36 places in the DFL, the German Football League.

At the first stage of the process, no applicants were denied a license but others were given conditions to meet by the end of May in order to become eligible to compete at this level.

In order to ensure fair and honest competition, the DFL, in accordance with its statutes, not only reviews the clubs' economic health but also their infrastructure, legal, personnel-administrative, media technology and sporting criteria.
