Former 1860 boss takes over Union's youth academy
Schellenberg appointed head of youth
1.FC Union Berlin have confirmed the appointment of Wolfgang Schellenberg as head of the club’s youth academy. The 46-year-old will assume responsibility for the next generation of talent in Berlin-Köpenick from 01.07.2018.
Schellenberg was previously coaching at lower-league side Wacker Burghausen, 1.FC Nürnberg and then latterly 1860 Munich. He was promoted to head of the youth setup in Bavaria in 2012 and held that position until last year.
"I am very pleased to welcome Wolfgang Schellenberg to the club. He has held various positions in football across 25 years and brings a wealth of experience to Union. I am sure that this will be extremely fruitful for our club ", said Lutz Munack, the club's Managing Director for sporting activities.
"For me, the development of talented young players into professional footballers is both my calling and profession. After many years in the south, I am very eager to get started at Union Berlin. I am sure that, together with the trainers and employees in the academy, I can make a difference" said Schellenberg.
