Fire at the stadium
Club update:
Late on Thursday evening, a fire broke out in the main stand at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The fire was extinguished shortly afterwards after the Berlin fire service was quickly on the scene. Damage was caused by the fire, foam, smoke and soot.
The LKA have now completed their investigations and extensive tests have shown that there was a technical defect in a refrigerator. Sunday's game between 1. FC Union Berlin and FC St. Pauli will go ahead as planned.
At the moment, the clean-up operation is well underway inside the main stand. This will be completed by Sunday. Nevertheless, some of the area will not be open and the club asks for your understanding.
"Of course, such a fire is very unfortunate. Fortunately all the installations and reporting channels for such a situation have functioned perfectly, so that damage is essentially limited to the idea where the fire broke out. Our special thanks go to the fire service and our employees and partners for their fast and effective help," said Dirk Thieme, CEO of "An der Alten Försterei" Stadionbetriebs AG.
The Stadion An der Alten Försterei opens on Sunday as normal at 12:00 noon with kick off scheduled for 13:30 local time.
