Under the motto "Eisern für Menschlichkeit", 1. FC Union Berlin and their foundation "UNION VEREINT. Schulter an Schulter", 1 FC Union Berlin called for donations for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Now the proceeds from the auction of original shirts worn and signed by Union's players amounting to €10,000 have been handed over to Caritas Berlin.

"I would like to thank all the Union fans who took part in the auction. We hope the proceeds will help to alleviate the hardship of the local people a little," said Dirk Zingler, President of 1. FC Union Berlin and Chairman of the Foundation's Board.

"I am very pleased that we were able to generate just over 9,000 euros with this year's "Eisern für Menschlichkeit" auction. We were then happy to round the amount up to 10,000 euros," said Jochen Lesching, Chairman of the Board of the "UNION VEREINT. Shoulder to Shoulder" foundation during the presentation of the cheque.

Professor Dr Ulrike Kostka, Chairwoman of the Board of the Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Berlin, accepted the donation cheque at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. "Many thousands of people continue to be housed in emergency shelters. Caritas is providing first aid there by securing food and drinking water supplies and is providing long-term support in rebuilding the infrastructure. I would like to express my sincere thanks for the commitment of the Union family, who have been supporting us in numerous projects for years."

For Union's Bundesliga home match against VfB Stuttgart, head coach Urs Fischer's team warmed up in red adidas shirts bearing the words "Eisern für Menschlichkeit". In recent weeks, the shirts were auctioned off on the club's own auction platform for the benefit of Caritas international.
