Dirk Zingler to stay Union President for another term
Stability in Leadership:
Dirk Zingler will remain president of 1. FC Union Berlin. The 56-year-old has led the club since the summer of 2004 and has been appointed by the club's supervisory board for another term.
With Zingler as president of 1. FC Union Berlin, the club have played both Regionalliga and Oberliga, as well as, reaching the Bundesliga for the first time. This is the extent of the sporting development under Zingler and this also extends to the expansion of the 22,000 Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
"The development of our club into a Bundesliga club, which will be starting its third season in Germany's top division in just a few months, is inextricably linked to the work of Dirk Zingler and his colleagues on the executive committee. I'm pleased that he is ready to tackle the next challenging goals as well," said Thomas Koch, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of 1. FC Union Berlin. "We wish Dirk Zingler and his team continued good luck and much success in the new term of office."
Zingler has proposed to the Supervisory Board that the current members Dirk Thieme, Jörg Hinze, Oskar Kosche and Lutz Munack are also appointed to the Executive Committee for a further term of office. This request was approved by the Supervisory Board.
"We have challenging tasks ahead of us: Union's establishment in the Bundesliga, the expansion of our stadium, the construction of the clubhouse, the new construction of the new youth academy with the aim of training Bundesliga players – all this will demand a lot of us and for this we need the strength of the entire club," said Dirk Zingler. "Therefore, I'm very pleased that the Supervisory Board has not only expressed its confidence in me, but that I can tackle these tasks with a well-established and proven team. Our claim is and remains to be successful as an independent, self-determined and self-confident football club and to make our voices heard in German football."
In accordance with 1. FC Union Berlin's Articles of Association, the new term of office for the Executive Committee will begin on July 1, 2021 and end on June 30, 2025.
