Starting from season 2019/20, the video assistant referee (VAR) will also be used in the 2.Bundesliga.

The majority of 2.Bundesliga representatives confirmed this decision at their meeting today in Frankfurt. This process has already been in place in the Bundesliga since the 2017/18 campaign.

“Irrespective of personal feelings, we believe it is necessary to make refereeing decisions within German professional football on a uniform basis. We have achieved this uniformity with today’s decision,” said Union president Dirk Zingler.
