Werder Bremen claim all three points in Berlin
U19 Bundesliga:
1. FC Union Berlin lost 3-1 at home to SV Werder Bremen in the U19 Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
The club from Köpenick struggled to impose themselves in the opening exchanges. Last week's narrow defeat to Dynamo Dresden was an energy-sapping affair and the heavy schedule took its toll. Werder went into a two-goal lead inside 18 minutes with Fred Quarschie scoring both goals. Jorik Wulff added a third for the visitors early in the second half, before Peter Petermann scored what proved to be just a consolation goal.
The victory means Union are in ninth position after nine matches with 11 points collected. Meanwhile, Werder Bremen remain in fourth and are level on points with third-placed Wolfsburg and two behind the leading sides, Leipzig and FC St. Pauli.
"Werder Bremen game deservedly won the game. But the team proved above all that there's a good spirit there," said Wili Weiße post-game.
XI: Oppermann; Sander, Lindemann (Markhoff 89). Riecke, Alimler; Inaler (Gencel 67), Opfermann Arcones, Sitz (Möller 67), Cinar; Petermann (Aksakal 71), Muschkowski
Next week, 1. FC Union Berlin take on Niendorfer TSV in Hamburg on Saturday November 3 at 14:00.
