Union wrap up season with loss at Wolfsburg

1. FC Union Berlin under-19's concluded their U19 Bundesliga campaign with a 4-1 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg.

The Köpenick club will end the campaign in 10th place after the defeat, but there are other honours to play for including the Berlin Cup, one of the priorities for the season.

Wolfsburg, already champions, have secured their place in the national finals. John Yeboah scored after 26 minutes to give the home side the lead after a good start.

In the second half, Union turned in a much-improved performance. The away side pressed high and looked secure in possession. Although Union couldn't get the equaliser, there were plenty of positives for the team. Muhammed Saracevic netted on 50 minutes and Philipp König added a third eight minutes later. Laurenz Dehl pulled one back for Union with 13 to go, but Lenn Jastremski restored the three-goal lead at the end.

"We need to take this good performance into the Berlin Cup and enjoy the highlight of the season," added coach Toni Mandl.

Union XI: Ludosan; Riecke, Inaler, Rankic, Koch; Dehl, Gencel (Muschkowski 51), Opfermann; Petermann (Cetin 51), Eidtner (Aksakal 60), Möller (Werner 80)

Union turn their attention to an important semi-final on Tuesday night against Tennis Borussia Berlin at 18:00 at the FEZ-Berlin complex.
