Union lose opener at St. Pauli
U19 Bundesliga:
The U19 Bundesliga campaign kicked off this weekend with 1. FC Union Berlin losing their first match in the North-Northeast division 2:5 at FC St. Pauli.
The first-half was in general a balanced contest but there were little scoring opportunities for either side in Hamburg. The game came to life towards the break when Franz Roggow took advantage of a defensive mistake to put St. Pauli in front.
After the break, the home side took control and racked up the goals. Justin Noah Seven, Mika Harald Stuhlmacher and Roggow's second put St. Pauli into a four-goal lead with about 15 minutes to play. The Köpenick club had their moments after the hour mark to find the breakthrough but the goals from Marius Ihbe and Linus Czosnyka were merely consolations.
"We didn't come out of the traps quickly. We made too many mistakes and deserved to lose in the end," said U19 coach Andre Vilk.
